AI cat dance videos: how they're made, with prompts

AI cat dance videos are made from one cat photo and a text prompt or a dance reference video, using an image-to-video model or a template app. On Runway's API an 8-second Gen-4 Turbo clip lists at $0.40 (Runway, 2026-10-26). For a quick clip use a template app; for a specific style, write your own prompt.

How are AI cat dance videos made?

AI cat dance videos are made by giving an image-to-video model or a template app one cat photo, then describing or copying a dance.

There are two routes. Some creators use a template tool, where you upload a photo and pick a preset dance. Others use a model such as Runway, where you write the motion in a prompt, or Kling, where you supply a reference video of a dancer.

Three styles dominate the viral clips: a cat in a suit and sunglasses, a cat on a green screen, and two cats dancing together. Each is easy to describe in a prompt, as with other AI cat video formats. The recipes below cover all three.

Which tools make a cat dance, and what do they need?

The main tools are template generators, which need only a photo, and video models, which need a photo plus a prompt or reference video.

Tool What you supply Documented limits
Viggle Character image, plus a template or your own dance video 5 free dances a day when signed up; pets listed, cats not named; clip length not stated
MagicLight cat dance HD cat photo and a motion prompt 20+ art styles, 40 music tracks, 720p or 1080p export; no prices or usage terms on the page
Kling Motion Control Character image and a 3 to 30 second dance video One character, one continuous shot; the guide recommends real humans and does not state that animals are supported
Runway API Image and prompt Priced per second of output; model list on the price page

Kling's guide recommends real human actions as the reference and mentions a cat only in a facial-element edge case, so treat cat bodies as something to try on your own photo. For a longer look at the reference-video route, see Kling Motion Control.

What is the prompt for an AI cat dance video?

A good cat dance prompt names the cat's pose, the dance move, the setting and the camera, in that order, and keeps to one action.

Use a photo of your own cat, sharp, with the whole body visible. Kling's guide asks for the full body and head to be visible and unobstructed, and for open space where the character will move. The same advice suits any model.

Style Photo Draft prompt
Suit and sunglasses Cat sitting, facing the camera "The cat stands on its hind legs and dances to a steady beat, swaying its hips and waving both paws. It wears a dark suit and black sunglasses. Plain studio background, fixed camera, full body in frame."
Green screen Cat standing, plain background "The cat bobs its head and shuffles side to side on its hind legs. Solid bright green background, fixed camera, full body in frame."
Duo One photo with two cats, both fully visible "The two cats stand on their hind legs and dance side by side, mirroring each other's paw waves. Living room, fixed camera, both cats in frame."

For the green screen style, you then remove the green in a video editor and place the cat on a new background. Ask for a flat, evenly lit green so the cutout is clean. Change one detail at a time after the first result.

How much does an AI cat dance video cost?

On Runway's API list prices, one 8-second cat clip costs $0.40 to $2.40, and a batch of three styles with three tries each costs $3.60 to $21.60.

One credit costs $0.01. The rates below come from Runway's pricing page (2026-10-26). Eight seconds is the longest Veo 3.1 clip, per Runway's Veo 3.1 guide, so the table uses it for every model.

Model on Runway Credits per second One 8-second try 9 tries (3 styles x 3)
Gen-4 Turbo 5 $0.40 $3.60
Gen-4.5 12 $0.96 $8.64
Seedance 2.0 Mini, 720p 15 $1.20 $10.80
Veo 3.1 Fast, no audio 10 $0.80 $7.20
Seedance 2.5, 720p, image only 30 $2.40 $21.60

The Seedance 2.5 line assumes no reference video, which would add 15 credits per second at 720p. The page also sets an 80-credit minimum per Seedance 2.5 generation. For free ways into Seedance, see Seedance 2 free.

Template apps price differently. Viggle's page lists plans but no prices. MagicLight's page lists none either.

Three tries per keeper is a planning figure for the batch. Kling's guide notes that credits are not refunded when complex motion makes the output shorter than the reference, so reference-video runs can waste credits.

Can I use any song for an AI cat dance video?

No. A popular song in your post can get it taken down, because TikTok asks you to confirm you hold the rights.

TikTok's music confirmation page says you must confirm that there is no copyright-protected music in the video, or that you have obtained and paid for all necessary licenses, including the composition and the master recording. It adds that if you post anyway, the post might be taken down.

The safe order is to generate the clip with no audio, then add music from the platform's own sound picker or a track you have licensed. Do not put a chart song into a reference video and expect it to be cleared. Model-generated audio is a separate question. Ownership of model-generated audio sits in each vendor's terms, so read them before you monetize the video.

Do I need to label AI cat videos?

TikTok asks creators to label realistic AI-generated video, and Meta applies an "AI info" label on Facebook and Instagram.

TikTok's September 2023 announcement says its policy requires people to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio or video, and allows a label, sticker or caption. Meta's announcement says it adds "AI info" when it detects industry-standard AI indicators or when a user discloses AI use.

Checklist: before you post a cat dance video

  1. The cat is yours, or you have the owner's permission for the photo.
  2. No real person's face, and no cartoon character or brand mascot, appears in the photo or the prompt. Cartoon characters and mascots can be protected by copyright or trademark, and using someone's likeness can raise publicity, privacy or passing-off rights, depending on the country and use.
  3. A dance reference video is your own footage or has the dancer's permission.
  4. The music is from the platform's picker or licensed to you, and was added after generation.
  5. The video is labeled as AI with the platform's tool, or in the caption.
  6. You have kept the prompt and settings, so you can redo the clip if it is removed.

Questions

What app does the AI cat dance?

Several apps and sites do it. Viggle and MagicLight both list pet or cat dance tools, and general video models such as Runway animate a cat photo from a prompt. Kling's Motion Control guide recommends real human reference footage. The vendor pages cited here give no benchmark for keeping a cat's face, so run your own photo through it.

How to make cat dance AI free?

Viggle says signed-up free users get 5 dance videos per day, and one video without signing in. Check the export settings before you plan to post it.

What is the cat dance called?

There is no single name. The viral clips are AI-generated dancing cats, often in suits and sunglasses or on a green screen. The song changes from clip to clip, so search by the visual style.

Do I have to label an AI cat video?

Yes, if it looks realistic. TikTok's policy asks creators to label realistic AI-generated video, and Meta adds an "AI info" label on Facebook and Instagram. A photoreal cat in a suit counts as realistic, so label it.
